The United States is undoubtedly the best basketball nation in the world. But they’ve been embarrassed at the World Cup. Anthony Edwards, Tyreese Halliburton, Jaylen Brunson, Cam Johnson, Mikal Bridges, Paulo Vanquero, and others have all played for the U.S., but they’ve failed to medal.

The smallest point differential in those three games was 27 points. In their first game of the second round of qualifying, they beat Montenegro for their fourth straight win.
However, they were stunned by Jonas Valensnas’ Lithuania. They followed that up with a win over Italy, but it was still shaky.
Their quarterfinal opponent was Germany. The US suffered a shock loss to Germany, 111-113. Once again, they failed to win the title.
Despite the loss, they still had a chance to medal. A win in the third or fourth place game would have avoided the embarrassment of a ‘no medal’. But once again, the US lost. They went to overtime against Canada, but it wasn’t enough, and the USA ended the 2023 Basketball World Cup in fourth place.
As a result, many NBA stars have announced their participation in the next Olympics. They”re hoping to recreate the “Dream Team” at the upcoming 2024 Olympics in Paris.
