KCC wins scrimmage against Jeonggwanjang.
The Busan KCC Aegis won 102-94 in a scrimmage against the Anyang Jungkwanjang Red Boosters at Anyang Gymnasium on April 22.
Both teams played most of their main players, but as it was a practice game, the focus was on strengthening the process and organization rather than winning or losing.
KCC was missing Ragan-ah and Lee Seung-hyun, who were called up to the national team, as well as Lee Ho-hyun, who suffered a minor injury. Jung Hyo-geun was also ruled out with a minor injury, and Lens Abando, who arrived on the day, only did some weight training and did not play.
KCC managed to pull out the win despite the absence of Ragan, with new face Alize Johnson playing a lot of minutes. Forming a one-two punch with Choi Jun-yong, Johnson used his speed, scoring ability, and shooting prowess to make his presence felt. Choi Jun-yong dunked like meat on water, while Heo Woong, Jung Chang-young, and other players did their part.
KGC also got some good shooting from Omari Spellman, who has been improving his form since returning from the Lebanese national team, playing around 20 minutes. Veteran shooter Bae Byeong-jun, who re-signed with the team this season, and captain Jung Jun-won also played well, but were unable to prevent the team from losing.
KCC started with Song Dong-hoon, Jung Chang-young, Heo Woong, Choi Jun-yong, and Alize Johnson, while Jung Kwan-jang started with Park Ji-hoon, Bae Byeong-joon, Jung Jun-won, Lee Jong-hyun, and Spellman.
Both teams started the game with Choi Jun-yong and Bae Byeong-joon as the outside shooters, and then Spellman opened up the scoring with Johnson not far behind.
While the outside support was active for both teams, KCC gained a narrow advantage as Heo Woong continued to score points. Jung Kwan-jang tried to keep up with KCC’s pace despite Bae Byeong-jun’s efforts. KCC’s transition game, led by Alize Johnson, paid off and they ended the first quarter with a 27-21 lead.
In the second quarter, Jung Kwan-jang started to pull away with three-pointers from Bae Byeong-joon and Choi Sung-won, but KCC was rejuvenated by Johnson’s dunk after a give-and-go play with Heo Woong and a dunk from Choi Jun-yong. With Johnson and Choi shining, KCC closed the half with a 50-41 lead. 스포츠토토
Johnson went to work inside and out first, and Choi responded with a three-pointer to extend the lead to 15 points. Johnson responded with a long-range floater and showed off his fluid dribbling as Chung answered with a three-pointer from Spellman. With the opponent’s defense collapsing, KCC ended the third quarter with an 80-64 lead.
In the third quarter, KCC’s Johnson-Junyong combination continued to be potent.
The fourth quarter started with the lineup of Heo Woong-Ijinwook-Jung Chang-young-Choi Jun-yong-Johnson and Choi Sung-won-Go Chan-hyuk-Jung Jun-won-Kim Chul-wook-Monroe. At the beginning of the quarter, Jung’s offense was on full display, and the gap was quickly reduced by Jung’s outside shooting.
However, KCC fought back with Choi Jun-yong as a fireman. Jung Chang-young then added to the scoring, bringing the lead back to double digits, and it was too much for KCC to overcome. Kelvin Epistola and Kim Chul-wook also scored in the remaining minutes as both teams continued to play aggressively.
