Brentford appear to be serious about a January move for Ivan Toney. It has been claimed that they have shockingly lowered their asking price.
European transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano said on his podcast on Thursday (Jan. 24) that a deal could be done for as little as £65 million ($107 million) despite the huge interest in Toni.
In May, Tosun was handed an eight-month suspension and fined £50,000 by the English Football Association (FA) for making 232 gambles in violation of regulations between 2017 and 2021.
According to the UK’s ‘The Sun’, his price tag before the suspension soared to £80 million (approx. 13.1 billion won). By comparison, £65 million is a “bargain. 스포츠토토
He won’t be able to play until January 16th of next year. Training has already begun. He was given permission by the FA to start training on September 16, four months before his suspension was lifted, to rehabilitate his hamstring injury. He began his fitness regimen on August 1.
Toni’s contract with Brentford ends in June 2025. Tottenham, Arsenal, and Chelsea are currently interested.
Tottenham, who are leading the English Premier League (EPL), will be without their main man Son Heung-min for the Asian Cup next January. He will be out for up to a month and they are in desperate need of striker reinforcements.
Toney scored 31 goals in the Championship in the 2020-2021 season, leading Brentford to promotion to the top flight. In the EPL, he proved his worth with 12 goals in 2021-2022 and 20 last season.
Brentford manager Thomas Frank has already indicated that he is willing to ‘cash in’ on Tony in the January transfer window: “Every club in the world is a ‘selling club’ except for five or six. At the right price and the right time, we can sell Tony,” he said.
“I don’t think there are many strikers on the planet who are better than him. You’ve got Kane, Lewandowski, Holland, but not many players can score 20 goals for a team like Brentford.” “We don’t create as many chances as the top six teams. Imagine if Tony was in a top team, he’d score 20-25 goals easily.”
